Stratics Lineage II

July 9, 2008

Once upon a time, I was a volunteer member of the Stratics community. StraticsCom Inc. hosts a MMO social network incorporating various online games including Lord of the Rings Online, World of Warcraft, and the game I was involved with, Lineage II. I joined the staff of Stratics Lineage II around October 2005 as a content writer. I had wrote a few quest guides, but mostly worked behind the scenes doing a little bit here and there. During a staff meeting, the idea of developing a Wikipedia-inspired database for Lineage II came about, and I was given the responsibility of leading the project. After a year of hard work during my free time (I was working toward my Master of Arts in Writing at the time), the L2 Wiki Project was finally released in April of 2007.

The L2 Wiki Project consisted of over 6500 articles concerning Lineage II. There were pages about lore, every NPC, game mechanics, and strategy. L2 Wiki became a featured item of the Stratics Lineage II website. The project was not complete, Lineage II is an ever evolving game, but the Lineage II community appreciated the offering and helped make Stratics Lineage II the foremost fansite of the North American, European, and South-East Asia markets. Everything was going great for the staff of Stratics Lineage II, so I left in May 2007 following the completion of my graduate studies with few regrets. If the story had ended there, everything would be peachy and I would still recommend the Stratics network to every MMO player I came across.

I recently contacted the person who recruited me into the Stratics staff to ask for contact information for StraticsCom Inc. because I wanted to cite my experience in a resume and was having a difficult time finding a physical address for the company (even if it was just for mail). In the email, the person informed me that Stratics had turned its back on its volunteers and erased the L2 Wiki Project and several quest guides from the site. The person I emailed (whose name I’ve decided to withhold out of consideration) went on to say that he and everyone I worked with at Stratics had quit the staff due to poor treatment and having almost all of their hard work just erased on a whim. Of my work on the site, only my quest guides remain; the thousands of pages and articles in the L2 Wiki, most of which I personally oversaw, was gone.

StraticsCom Inc. has earned my contempt and I will no longer associate myself with them. My resume will no doubt suffer from losing two years of professional albeit volunteer experience. I’m in a tight spot right now. Hopefully, I can explain things during the interviews, otherwise potential employers frown upon recruits who cite a lot of work experience on their resume but can prove none of it. The L2 Wiki is gone. My whole term as a Stratics staff member might as well have been for nothing. Fond memories don’t work on a resume.

My sympathies to the former staff of Stratics Lineage II. To StraticsCom Inc., you have made an enemy.

Tatsunoko vs. Capcom Promo Video

July 9, 2008

[ed. WordPress obviously didn't like the attempt at posting a video, so here is a link to the video I talk about in this post]

Tatsunoko vs. Capcom Promotional Video (Fixed Audio)

I came across this video on Kotaku today and decided to use it as an excuse to try posting a video in my blog. I don’t know much about the Tatsunoko part, but the Capcom side, yep. Ryu and Chun-Li are in, as standard, but there is also that guy Soki from Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams. The action appears to have the same kinetic pace as Marvel vs. Capcom 2 with the fluid animation of the upcoming Street Fighter 4. However, I’m going by a YouTube quality video, so my assumptions could be off a bit. ;p

There is a question as to whether this game will ever make its journey across the Pacific, but when considering the unfamiliar Tatsunoko aspect of the game, Capcom would be remiss in not taking advantage of the popularity of other “vs.” games in the US. I expect the game to be a hit in Japan, and it will eventually find its way into the US market before long.

More to come.

Test post using ScribeFire

July 9, 2008

Remember I said something about starting an account just to test out a Firefox 3 add-on? Well, here it is! This post was made using ScribeFire. If it proves easy enough to use, I will continue to do so. If not, then this could very well be the final post of my weblog. It lived a good life; long-lived by the standards of most things on the Internet. ;p

More to come!

My Weblog is now live!

July 9, 2008

For some reason or another, I’ve decided to start my own weblog, online journal, rant page, thingie. I don’t know if anything will come of it or if I will even make a second post, but I would like to think that this weblog might go somewhere and I didn’t just start a WordPress account just to test out a Firefox 3 add-on.

Stay tuned for actual content in the future. Maybe.
